Specializing in Specialty Shaped Cakes

This was my very first specialty shaped cake. I feel like my brain is like the game Tetris- it just clink clink clinks along until all of the pieces get stacked just perfectly for a high score of delicious sugary shaped goodness. If you ask me to make a cake for you I immediately start think of the shapes that are going to be required to build it, the structural aspects to keep it up and the amount for time it will take. I create the entire thing in my head before I ever start it. I get that gift from my dad. The Lord has passed that on to me from him and I am very thankful. Although I am not a sports fan, I do like to make snacks for any event. Fun shaped cakes like this one will put any sports nut over the top.
I was almost disowned by my family for this one. Us Okies should only bake for Okies. I do love Oklahoma, but be that as it may, I am not biased when it comes to making a grooms cake for someone.
This one was very difficult... I LOVE A CHALLENGE! I think that I was hopping around laughing in a deep cynical voice the entire time I was carving, icing, eatable spray painting, and hand luster dust painting this one. Don't be fooled by the thirty minute food network shows-- these kind of creations take hours and hours.

I was required to place this picture like this to honor all of my OU loving family. Hi mom and Nord!!!

Wedding Style

I have fed anywhere from thirty to over four-hundred. Simple and elegant seem to be the style but I am just itching to do something more edgy and bold with bright, breathtaking colors. Totally fondant covered or just with fondant accents gives such a smooth sleek look. I always use a scrumptious icing underneath it. Not everyone is a big fan of the taste of fondant-- I like it-- I think that it taste like marshmallows. I am sure that I eat my weight in marshmallows every year at least :) Anyway... I really enjoy working with fondant, it can be color matched to anything and molded to so many interesting shapes that normal icing just can not do.
Fresh flowers are so beautiful on a cake. They give it such a fresh lively look and isn't that what you want to express at your wedding- fresh new life with someone that you will cherish for all time. I love being married. For those of you that do not know me, I am completely smitten with my hubby. He is a wonderful strong christian man that treats me better than I could have ever imagined. I hardly ever open my own door, he lets me blab on and on about new styles and flavors, and he continually encourages me with every cake I make.
Fake flowers are great too. They give that same feel as fresh flowers. No worries of wilting and are really nice for long receptions.
I can also create sugar flowers. You can just munch right on them no problem. I really enjoy making them and I like to cover them in a pearl luster dust to give them more depth and a surreal style.

Wonki Cakes

Wonki cakes defy gravity- no worries though they have a dowel that goes threw the entire cake to keep everything in place. I am sure that that is only interesting to me. I am one of those people that reads an entire cake decorating book in one night. It is like a mystery novel that I just can not put down.

Special Events

Have individual cakes for everyone! These are labeled to show what cake is inside --"W" for white, "L" for lemon, "C" for chocolate, "S" for strawberry. The colors of icing show a different color for the different flavors--Yellow for lemon cream, White for almond vanilla cream, Chocolate for chocolate cream, and my personal favorite... I can still eat my weight in this combo... Green for mint cream. It is sooo good on a rich triple fudge chocolate chip cake with pudding filling with mint chips mixed in. Mmmm I wish I had a slice now. Hey, I just so happen to know a gal, me! :) THETA THETA THETA!! Need I say more?
A pretty white cake with an antique technique. I really try hard to refrain from rhyming a lot in this blog... but it is another one of my passions.

)))))More fun Birthdays((((((

This was a cake that I feel like I would have liked as a little girl. Pink, sparkly and shaped like a kitty. What else could a girl want?21 is the new sweet 16!

This was just a simple "pretty cake"! Super moist delicious white cake with a raspberry preserves filling and a sweet butter cream icing. The spring stars adds an interesting element to a fun cake. This was a chocolate/white/chocolate cake with a rich buttercream icing.

~~~Celebrate with Style~~~
This was requested by the birthday girl herself. She wanted a heart shaped cake with all the colors, strawberries, triangles, hearts, and she wanted it to be a strawberry cake! I let my imagination go with this one since she did too. I feel like it turned out pretty fun. You tell me the key points you want and I will come up with the rest!Needing a theme cake? This one takes the cake.... sorry had to put that one in someplace.
Not sure what you want? Go with something abstract with specific colors to match the party decor!
This one I will have to go into more detail. I do not always bake alone. My idea of a fun night is having my friends over to decorate a cake for one of their loved ones. My friend Amy C.'s sister's birthday came up and she wanted to do something big. We researched and designed this one together. I baked everything the night before and Amy, Lori, and myself decorated it! When people come over for my monthly cake-a-thons it is always a blast! We stuff ourselves with cake and pizza. I laughed most of this night so I am surprised that it turned out so great.
This was for a small occasion. Clint likes to work on cars and motorcycles so I came up with this one. You tell me hobbies of the recipient of the cake and I will come up with something fun for the event!
Sweet Baby Birthday's
The first birthday is so memorable. Mommies always want everything just perfect for their perfect little angels. I hope that I can help add to this fun memory. To be honest... these are my favorites.For those of you that I have done cakes for, I have a confession. I've probably blogged you. I love seeing the pictures of your little joys stuffing their faces with their first birthday cake. It seems like it always happens the same way... they look at it unsure what to do really. Then a helping hand, either a parent, grandparent or eager older sibling, gives them that first taste. After that it is over, the cake is everywhere, covering them from head to toe and most of the floor surrounding them. I love it!
Making a separate cake just for the birthday kiddo is easy so do not hesitate to ask. The top layer of this one was just for the birthday girl.
The leaf was the separate cake for Greyson. I like the worm :) It makes me laugh and I have to point it out to everyone that I show this picture.
Why not for me?
I have to admit... sometimes I just create cakes for myself. I mean why not. I like cake! Well, I used to like cake. You see I thought that there would never come a time when I would ever say "Oh, no thanks, I really do not want a slice of cake". I mean I was the gal that had no shame when it came to cake-- being socially accepted was not even an afterthought when it came to getting my third or fourth slice. I ate it when ever I got the chance and usually talked Ry into getting a slice for himself knowing full well that he would not eat it and that I would have to graciously finish his. I think that it was the scraps of my forty-fifth cake that it hit me. I can never eat this again. I have gained ten pounds since I started this little hobby gone crazy obsession and I realized that it just was not appealing anymore. So I put my shoveling fork down. I do still like a cold lemon cake with a pudding filling or a hot chocolate one with melted Hershey kisses on top. But, those I can only eat if I have not baked in a few days. Which at this point is getting harder and harder to find a few days of no baking, praise be to the Lord Almighty.
IT'S A BOY!!
I love creating cakes for baby showers! What a wonderfully joyful time!
Some assembly is required. It is better to put the cupcakes on at the final destination. The photo above-- My friend Melody helped me transport this one. It got there fine, but I had to hold on to the cupcakes the entire drive and I thought my hands would never be the same. I was gripping on to all three of them so tightly but so delicatly so that I would not squish them that my hand started to cramp about half way there. Bouff-- it was not cool. I had a bad case of cakethritis. This is a for real thing too, there are special wrist bands to help prevent it.
ARTS
This was for a retirement party. She worked at the Arts council and I wanted to do something that looked like it was sculpted. You can see that I started to stretch it out to the limit a little more. I giggled the entire time I decorated it because I was so excited with how it was turning out!
Work Visa!
This was for Ryan (my wonderful husband) and my very good friend Leo. It was a lemon cake with lemon pudding and a very delicous vanilla mousse cream icing and white chocolate accents. We are so proud of you Leo! Thanks for being such a faithful friend.
