This fun filled cake was for my sweet little niece! I put a lot of time and love into this cake for her. Each character was hand crafted and completely edible. The kiddo's loved to eat the sugar covered fondant presents on top. Very fun to watch.
This was the first time that I worked with gum paste. I have never made an orchid before. I feel like they turned out okay. It was another one of those times when I was jumping around and giggling when I finished.
I really enjoyed making this cake! (I know I say that with almost every cake I make, but really it was fun to do) If you will notice the tooth brush bristles, you will see that they are candles! Hehehe! I love it!
Where do I begin... THIS CAKE WAS SO FUN!!!!!! Oh my goodness, oh my goodness!!! I am sure that some of you may have suspected, but (here goes) I am a sci-fi freak! When I was asked to make a Millennium Falcon cake I almost burst. Only dogs could have heard my high pitch squeals.... I love everything about this cake! I wasn't even sad when it got eaten- now everyone has a little sci-fi in them :) (You can almost hear the Star Wars music!)
This cake was for my dear dear friend. I have known her since forever. She deserved a cake fit for a queen and that is what I gave her. She is one of the most wonderful people I have ever met and has the purest of hearts. I love you lady!!!! May the Lord bless your marriage greatly!
Here we are, fall 2009! I am constantly amazed at how the Lord has blessed this cake making fun. Everyday I praise Him for all the success Katie's Cakes has had. I started baking in the first grade making cookies for my family. When I became the wife of the most wonderful man that God could have ever blessed me with, I found that he would not accept store bought cakes, cookies, or really even canned goods. So I had to up my skills! I started making breads, brownies, cookies, and all kinds of confections. Then one day I decided that I would take it a little farther and read a few books on how to decorate my sweets to make them a little more fun for my loved ones. As I started I felt like I found my "talent" from the Lord. I say that baking and decorating cakes is a spiritual experience. It is time to just spend with my Lord and Savior. It makes me tear up a little to think about it... and how great it makes me feel when I get to share it with others! I hope you all enjoy Katie's Cakes.
